What the browser knows about the link you are riding right now.
No browser exposes a Wi-Fi scanning API โ that would let any website work out exactly where you live. Your operating system will happily tell you, though, which is why the Scryer asks you to paste its answer. The parsing, charting and locating all happen locally in your browser, and nothing ever leaves the page.
A “hidden” network only stops broadcasting its name. It still announces its MAC address (BSSID), channel and signal every few seconds, so every scanner sees it. The Scryer flags those nameless entries and shows their vendor and channel instead. Hiding a network is not a security feature โ treat these like any other neighbour.
Anything that is not Wi-Fi or Bluetooth needs real radio hardware โ a spectrum analyser or an SDR dongle. What a laptop can tell you is where the interference bites: an overcrowded channel in the map above, or a 2.4 GHz link that mysteriously stalls around dinner time, is usually a neighbour, a microwave or a cordless doorbell.
Listening to the beacons that networks broadcast is normal and passive โ your phone does it constantly. Connecting to a network you have no permission to use is not. Scry responsibly.
