What the numbers mean

0–30 dB Rustling leaves, a quiet bedroom at night.
30–50 dB Library, soft conversation, a humming fridge.
50–70 dB Normal talking, an office, background TV.
70–85 dB Busy street, vacuum cleaner, a lively restaurant.
85–100 dB Hearing damage after prolonged exposure — power tools, heavy traffic, a loud bar.
100 dB+ Concerts, chainsaws, sirens. Minutes are enough to hurt.
